Mastery Hybrid and Electric Vehicles
SAFETYThis course is designed to provide students with foundational knowledge related to hybrid and electric vehicles. Smog Tech Institute strongly advises all technicians to strictly follow all published manufacturer and industry safety procedures when working on or around hybrid and electric vehicles. This course is not intended to replace advanced hands-on high-voltage safety training. The institute recommends additional advanced training before performing service or repair procedures on high-voltage systems. Hybrid and electric vehicle systems contain potentially lethal high-voltage circuits that can result in serious injury or death if proper safety procedures are not followed. Required Pearson eBook AcknowledgmentThis course requires the assigned Pearson eBook. Students are responsible for purchasing or otherwise lawfully obtaining access to the required Pearson eBook for their own educational use. Pearson may maintain its own access roster identifying students who have activated or accessed the required eBook materials. About This CourseHybrid and electric vehicles have become a major part of the modern automotive industry as manufacturers continue to meet increasingly strict fuel economy and emissions standards. This course introduces students to the operation, design, and service fundamentals of hybrid and electric vehicles. Students will gain a foundational understanding of hybrid vehicle architectures, including Series, Parallel, and Series-Parallel systems. The course also covers the operation and purpose of high-voltage batteries, electric motors, generators, converters, and inverters. Students will learn the differences between high-voltage and low-voltage systems and will be introduced to regenerative braking operation and essential hybrid and electric vehicle safety procedures. This course may help students strengthen the foundational knowledge necessary to prepare for the ASE Hybrid/Electric Vehicle Specialist certification tests. However, successful completion of this course alone does not guarantee passing any ASE certification examination. Subjects Covered Include
